As the KDLDP program is funded through the overall USAID Farmer-to-Farmer (FTF) program for East Africa, CNFA's FTF volunteers play an integral role in the implementation of the project. Volunteers help provide training and technical assistance all along the livestock value chain, working with pastoralist and women’s groups in Garissa, as well as processors, buyers, and policy-makers in and around Nairobi and Kenya’s coastal market cities.
Specific anticipated assignments include:
- Access to Markets: Support to the Kenya Livestock Marketing Council (KLMC), business planning and financial management for traders (especially women traders)
- Value Addition: hygiene improvement, product quality, packaging and marketing, and business planning
- Productivity: forage improvement, animal health, agro-vet development, and access to finance
- Policy: advocacy support to producer and trader groups, technical support to government agencies and research institutions
